Kai Filbrandt
Born and raised in the beautiful city of Hamburg I now live in the beautiful “Nordheide” in Lower Saxony, Germany. The national park “Lüneburger Heide” is just a few minutes away.
I have spend a few years in the United States, most of it in Michigan, where I rediscovered my passion for photography and decided to make it my number one hobby.
It’s funny, once you’re back at your home town and are challenged to find new compositions, you discover so many beautiful and rewarding places that are just minutes away from your door step.
Every know and then I indulge in my other passion which is astronomy. Astronomy and photography work well together and form, yes, astrophotography. It is fascinating what you can capture with modern cameras, even by using regular lenses. Just by exposing a few seconds you can capture so much more light that the human eye is capable to do. All of a sudden, nebulae and other objects appear. The Milky Way is a prime example of that. Putting the camera to a telescope opens up a full new chapter of photography, which is intriguing but also very challenging.
Lastly, I like to introduce my best photo buddy who joins me on most photo sessions: Fox, an Australian Sheppard. If you look for a way to improve your photography get a dog. Seriously. He or she forces you to go outside, regardless the weather. Grab your camera or even only your smartphone along the way. Explore new roads, paths, and areas over the time. Your dog will love it and you are presented with a wagonload of opportunities to find new subjects, scenes, and compositions.

Of course, there is also wife and kids. Although they are the center of my life, they remain private.
